Alkisahnya… ada seseorang tu bercita-cita menjadi WAHM pada satu masa nanti. Dia dah plan macam-macam kalau dia jadi WAHM.

Salah satu plan dia adalah untuk fully cloth diapering anak dia lah. Sebab sekarang ni dia full time working, so cuma boleh cloth diapering anak dia waktu malam dan hari cuti sahaja.

Bukan tak boleh ajar orang yang jaga anak dia, tapi dia tak mahu orang lain handle cloth diaper yang banyak pantang-larang dan juga mahal itu…ha..ha..ha

Orang itu sudah lama berjinak dengan cloth diaper ni. Sejak anak dia belum lahir lagi. Dia dah beli sedikit demi sedikit cloth diaper pelbagai jenis. Dari chinese prefolds, diaper cover, all-in-one, pocket diaper dan juga fitted cloth diaper. Semua dia pernah try lah.

Kalau breastfeeding, yang fully breastfeed ada sesetengah rasa bangga *dan riak* sebab diaorang dapat breasfeed anak sampai at least 2 years. Ada tu sampai mengutuk dan menghentam orang yang bagi anak susu formula.

Sebab dia bagi anak susu badan maka hanya anak dia layak dipanggil anak manusia. Hanya anak dia yang cerdik sebab dapat pure DHA. Anak orang yang minum susu formula dipanggil anak lembu dan dianggap kurang cerdik..hoh! Kalau minum susu soya, anak pokok soya!

Gila riak!! Tak ingat yang dia dapat fully breastfeed tu sebab rezeki dari Allah. Dibuatnya Allah tarik balik, mana nak letak muka? Susu lembu juga sebagai ganti. So, jangan bangga sangat sampai buat orang lain sakit hati. Doa orang yang disakiti hatinya senang makbul.

Tak tau lah kot ada orang yang sanggup merosakkan perut anak dengan bagi solid food sebelum masanya semata ego tak mau bagi formula.

Opss.. silap tulis.. bukan me yang pakai cloth diaper.. me memakaikan cloth diaper kepada my baby Izzah since she was 3 months old. Dah lama me tak bercerita pasal cloth diaper ni..he..he

Walaupun bukan pengguna tegar cloth diaper *cuma pakai kat rumah je, time nursery disposables juga* tapi me pernah menjadi cloth-diaperholic.. you know… kalau orang gila shopping kan dipanggil shopaholic..  so kalau orang yang gila beli cloth diaper tu patut panggil cloth-diaperholic la kan…ha..ha

Sungguh. Dulu masa me pregnant dan a few months after Izzah lahir, me sudah berbelanja close to RM1.5k untuk cloth diaper modern dan aksesori dia  *bukan kereta je ada aksesori ha..ha*.

You see, in 2007 (time pregnant) cuma ada satu je local manufacturer of cloth diaper.. itu pun dia cuma buat Fitted Cloth Diaper.. walaupun harga lebih murah dari imported cloth diaper… tapi me tak suka sangat fitted ni.. sebab tak berapa leak proof.

So, I think it’s good to share some pictures of little Izzah in cloth nappies. Below is the little princess in a prefold and flowery cloth diaper cover. Stunning bum-bum isn’t it?

I have a dozen prefolds and some S-sized diaper cover that are rarely used. The diaper covers fits up to 7 kg babies. And, Izzah’s weight is more than that already. She barely fit the cover.

At first, I thought I want to keep the prefolds and covers for my second baby. But then, I had the miscarriage.

And, it could be years before I could conceive again.

Perhaps, it’s best to let go those items. Anyone interested? I’ll write a post about it soon.

However, things didn’t go as planned. Engulfed with giving birth at 34 weeks, through an emergency c-section and the post-operation trauma, I totally forgot about CD-ing my baby (note: CD stands for cloth diaper).

I only started CD-ing little Izzah after the confinement period. But, I only use prefolds ocassionally as I like pocket diapers more. So, I’m going to let go @ sell half of the prefolds that I have (will write in another post).

You see, the start-up cost of using cloth diaper is not cheap. So, if you’re interested in trying out CD-ing your baby, it’s a good idea to buy second-hands first. If you like it, then you can begin building your cloth diaper stash.

So, let’s see how to use a prefold (my style). Basically, I’ll need:

• a prefold
• fleece liner (for a stay-dry feeling)
• diaper

BumGenius 3.0 – one size pocket diaper that comes with 2 microfibre inserts. Bought two colors (Blossom Pink and Grasshopper Green), so total of BumGenius that I have now is 7. I really love BumGenius!

Bummis Super Whisper Wrap – diaper cover to be used with prefolds & fitted diapers.

1) Prefolds

Prefolds are rectangular in shape and similar to the traditional flat cotton lampin. But, thicker!

You no longer need to fold the cloth before using because it’s already folded (hence the name, prefold).

It is designed with three areas of varying thickness. For example, a 4x8x4 prefolds had 4 layers of cotton twill on the side panels with 8 layers in the middle where the maximum absorbencies is needed.

Prefolds are very durable and the cheapest choice of modern cloth diapers. The cost is only around RM90 per dozen.

These diapers require waterproof outer covers. So, it’s a three piece diapering system (diaper, cover, closure for diaper).

Typically these diapers are closed with either diaper pins or a Snappi fastener. You can also simply lay them in a wrap style cover.

2) Fitted Diaper

Fitted diapers closely resemble disposable diapers. They are contoured and fitted with elastic around the legs and back. And, they’re fasten with Velcro or snaps.

Fitted diapers are not waterproof so you do need a diaper cover. So, it’s a two piece diapering system (diaper + cover).

Nay! That’s the old way. Cloth diapers has evolved. Yes, really!

Modern cloth diapers are so very cute. There are a lot of pretty colors & prints. And, many luxurious textures and fabric.

So, why use cloth diapers?

Cloth Diapers Are As Convenient As Disposable Diapers

Cloth diapers today have either Velcro fastening’s or use snaps. So, it is easy to put on and take off just like disposables. They also have multiple layers of fabric with high absorbency that can last for hours.

Cloth Diapers Are Cheaper Than Disposable Diapers

The initial cost of using modern cloth diapers seems so expensive.

For example, a pocket diaper with insert may cost about RM80 each. Lets say, your baby need about 8 pocket diapers a day (assuming 3 hours between changes). And, if you wash it daily, you’ll need another 4 while waiting for the diapers to dry. So, total is at least 12 diapers.

12 x RM80 = RM960

Hmm… seems expensive, right?

But, consider this.

Ooh no.. it’s not the traditional type of flat cotton diaper @ lampin that my mother used on me a very long time ago. I’m really talking about the modern version of cloth diapering.

Is there such thing better than disposables? YES!!!

You see, I have so many nieces and nephews. And, most of them used disposable diapers because they’re easy to use, can hold pee for hours and can just throw away after been used. It makes life easy, right?

When all of my siblings (and their little kids) gathered for Hari Raya at my parents’ house, just imagine how many of the used disposables thrown in the thrash bin? A very huge pile!

And, where all those smelly diapers go? The landfills – polluting our poor earth.

So, when I got pregnant, I read a lot about cloth diapering babies in a modern way. And, actually been collecting/buying the cloth diaper items since I was 2 months pregnant. My mission was to use cloth diaper on my baby after she was born (and save the earth in the process… he..he).
